DAYS OF SIGNIFICANCE: 

Ash Wednesday, the First day of Lent on the Christian calendar. Its name is derived from the symbolic use of ashes to signify penitence. It takes place immediately after the two days of Carnival that take place in Northern Europe, and parts of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Valentine’s Day a Western Christian feast day honouring one or two early saints named Valentinus. Typically associated with love and celebrated by people expressing their love via gifts.

Today is pink, red or white day - could period 1 teachers please refer to the email in the staffroom to record the number of students, by grade, who are wearing pink, red or white. A reminder that tomorrow is PJ day! By dressing up in spirit themes you earn points for your grade in our yearly colour wars competition!

Vasata Panchami in Northern India heralds the approach of spring and yellow coloured clothes are symbolically worn. Even the food is coloured yellow by using saffron. This festival honours Saraswati, the Goddess of Learning, Wisdom and the Creative arts. (Hinduism)

ARTS

SPORTS

A reminder to the Intramural Hockey League that the last regular season game is tomorrow between Blue and Orange.  There will be no games next week and then we will head into the playoffs.

Swimmers going to OFSAA, you will have a meeting TOMORROW (Thursday at lunch) in Room 201 to get all the necessary forms. 

Congratulations to the jr girls volleyball team that finished their regular season undefeated. The team will play next week in the playoffs. Come out and show your support. Also, can all of the girls come to room 306 immediately after announcements. Thank you.

Girls hockey - what do hockey players and magicians have in common? They both do hat-tricks!  There will be a meeting for all members of the girls hockey team at lunch on Thursday in Mr Bhan’s room. 

The Junior Boys Basketball team will be taking on Greater Fort Erie in a semi-final game today after school at 3pm. Come out and support your team. Good luck boys!

The Sr. Boys Basketball team traveled to Welland Centennial to compete in the zone semi-final game yesterday afternoon. In front of a loud Centennial crowd, the boys fought hard for four quarters in a back-and-forth game that came down to the final buzzer. With a few pivotal stops down the stretch, the boys finished the game strong, winning 53-49. They advance to the zone final on Thursday afternoon at Westlane. Good luck boys!
