CLUBS

Congratulations to the Crossley Mock Trial Team. On Friday they competed in a high school tournament of 8 teams at the St Catharines Courthouse. In this competition they played both the Crown and the Defense. After the round robin phase, the 8 teams were ranked. Crossley came out of the round robin ranked #1 winning both in points and in getting a guilty verdict as the Crown and an innocent verdict as the Defense. They then moved on to the semi finals as the Crown and faced the #4 ranked Team, Dennis Morris of St Catharines. Once again they won a guilty verdict, yet in a very controversial decision, as the judges forgot to penalize Dennis Morris for going over their allotted time, and to the disbelief of the audience watching the trial, Crossley was eliminated and sent home. Yet despite this disappointing loss, the overall experience was incredible and our students displayed amazing sportsmanship and courtroom etiquette.  And by the way…Crossley showed their photogenic swag and was awarded first place for the best Team photo. Lady Justice shall prevail, better luck next year guys!

Are you interested in planning school wide events like spirit weeks and Semi? Are you interested in working as part of a team and developing leadership skills? Then Students Council is the club for you! Nomination packages are available this week and due on Friday May 13th. Please come to room 113 or room 308 and speak with Mrs. Varga or Mrs. Ranieri if you are interested!

The Oddity Film Society will be viewing something peculiar after school today. So stop by 305 to be entertained.

SPORTS

Congratulations to all of the Crossley Rowing team members who raced with determination and drive at the Mother’s Day Regatta on Sunday (first side by side racing high school regatta in over 2 years). Despite part of the regatta being cancelled due to the winds, we managed to achieve a number of medals including gold. Well done team as we prepare for some upcoming regattas and the national championships in June. Reminder practice runs 3-6pm and 5-8 pm due to also having to rig our boats. See you soon. Go blue and gold!

The girls softball team is reminded of their practice after school tonight in preparation for the exhibition game on Thursday. Please meet Mr Smith and Mr Belding in room 112.  Please bring all paperwork signed if you have it.  After a 9th schedule revision, the varsity baseball team will finally be making their debut this afternoon in Fort Erie at 1:00. Team members, please meet out front of Room 406 immediately after announcements for a quick meeting.

To all track & field athletes, remember to meet at Centennial at 7:45am SHARP tomorrow morning. Check the PE board today for your Competition number and see the slight change in the schedule.  Yes there is a practice today. Relays must definitely be at practice!

Last week the Badminton season came to an end with the OFSAA Championships in Chatham. Cole Bedard competed in the Boys Singles category and competed well above expectations.  Considering Cole only played 2 months in Grade 9 and 2 months this year, he played against the 1st seed and eventual silver medalist in his second match taking 17 and 15 points off his opponent and immensely frustrating him in a first round game.  I would like to thank the badminton team for a great season and a special shout out to Ben C. who helped prepare Cole for Ofsaa.  We would also like to thank Mr. Smith for his help last week at Sossa and Mackenzie C. Caleb, D., Cohen H. Jocelyn M. for running the sub zone and zone badminton tournaments this year.  Tons of compliments! Thanks again!  Mr. Blanchard
