TODAY'S NEWS

Good morning Cyclones! Today is the 4th day of Mental Health Awareness Week.

Today’s action is “treat mental health issues like any other health issue”. We all have mental health, just like we all have physical health. According to a recent report from Statistics Canada, youth have been at higher risk of experiencing poor mental health (compared to other age groups) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Treating mental health issues just like you would treat someone with a broken arm helps reduce the stigma so that more people feel comfortable asking for help. It is important to know that people with mental health issues can and do recover.

If you think that you or a friend might be having a mental health issue, please reach out to your teacher, guidance counsellor, or principal. They’re here to listen.

Talk, walk and you guessed it… CHALK for mental health! Classrooms are encouraged to write positive messages using chalk on the front sidewalk. Teachers, if you’ve signed your class for a time slot today, you can pick up and drop off the chalk at the front office. Let’s keep the momentum going for Mental Health Awareness Week!

E.L. Crossley is offering extra homework and assignment help Tuesday and Thursdays. Mr. Yando and Mr. Leone will be working with students in the library afterschool today until 4 pm. This is a great opportunity to get additional support in any of your courses. Everyone is welcome!

CLUBS

Crossley for Christ is meeting in room 214 today. Bring your lunch, we want to fill the room. It’s never too late to come. Enjoy a short prayer and bring a friend, make a new friend and enjoy some time in community. See you then.

The student council meeting scheduled for this week is canceled. We will meet again next week on Thursday after school.

SPORTS

Boys soccer game scheduled for today has been moved to May 11, same place, same time

Track & Field opened up their season yesterday with their first competition! The 80 athletes had some great performances for a very cold rainy day. Make sure to ask them how they did.  There is only practice tonight for those who want to stay. Coaches will be present.
Reminder to all track & field athletes that they must check the PE board for the events they will be competing in next week. There is a mandatory practice this friday. You cannot leave it to the day before a meet to practice skilled events.

The girls softball team is scheduled to practice tonight after school at Harold Black Park.  See you there at 2:30.
