Days of Significance:
International Women’s Day-According to one source, a women’s march in New York in 1857 provided the inspiration for the day. Others claim that it began as a commemoration of a strike by women needle trades workers in New York City in 1908. International Women’s Day was revived in the 1960s and in 1975 the U.N. began sponsoring this day. (United States)
Maha Shivaratri-On Shiva’s night, the Hindu deity Lord Shiva performed the Tandav, the cosmic dance of creation and destruction. A 24-hour fast is kept and devotees make pilgrimages to major shrines for worship. (Hinduism)

Yesterday, the Varsity Boys hockey team travelled to Welland to take on Centennial in the Championship Finals. It was a back and forth affair and despite a player undressing the opposing goalie and another player finding the back of the net 3 times for the hat trick, your Cyclones found themselves headed to overtime once again. 5 on 5 overtime wasn’t enough and neither was 4 on 4. In the third overtime period playing 3 on 3 it looked like the game was over as Centennial skated in on a break away with 6 seconds left, but the goalie stood tall and denied a goal. A shoot out was needed and 2 players were able to tuck it past the goalie, but it wasn’t enough. A sudden death shootout was needed. Crossley's player skated in and fired a shot five hole and the team held its breath as Centennial made their last attempt to keep the game going. It was no use as our goalie played the angles. Centennial missed and Crossley was victorious, making it back to back years as champions. Mr. Lew and Mr. Blanchard would like to congratulate the players for a great season, and give honourable mentions to the senior graduating players for their leadership throughout their years playing for Crossley.
