DAYS OF SIGNIFICANCE

Neurodiversity Celebration Week-Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences. It aims to transform how neurodivergent individuals are perceived and supported by providing schools, universities, organizations, and others around the world with the opportunity to recognize the many skills and talents of neurodivergent individuals, while creating more inclusive and equitable cultures that celebrate differences and empower every individual.

Irish Heritage Day-Irish immigrants were among the earliest settlers in Canada. In 1845, Irish immigrants, fleeing the potato famine in Ireland, began settling in Ontario in large numbers. They brought to Ontario and Canada their values of hard work, devotion to family, service to the community and the perpetual hope for a better future for themselves and their fellow citizens. Ontario citizens of Irish descent made significant contributions to the founding of Canada. They have made and continue to make significant contributions to the development of Canada, especially over the more than 150 years since the first large waves of Irish immigration. It is important to recognize and celebrate those contributions. (Ontario)

TODAY’S NEWS

Graduating students are reminded to fill out the Graduate Award Profile as found on the Grade 12 D2L.

Starting today, the field and soccer nets will be available during lunch so long as there is no food on the track or turf.  Two soccer balls will be available to use at lunch starting tomorrow.  Please take care of any garbage. That would be greatly appreciated.  Just a reminder that the field is not available during classes if there are Phys Ed classes outside.

ARTS

Attention visual art students: The DSBN Off the Wall Art Show is coming soon! Students in grades 9 to eleven are invited to bring one piece of their favorite artwork creations to Ms. Wilkinson or Ms. B White by April 11th.

Attention Vocalists! There will be a rehearsal at lunch today in the music room

CLUBS

Mock Trial team meeting is cancelled for today.

Concert band will meet today in the music room after school.  New Music today!

SPORTS

Badminton Team try-outs are starting this week.  Grade 11 and 12’s will be today and Thursday.  Grade 9 and 10’s will be Tuesday and Friday.  Have a look at the schedule in the gym foyer for more dates.  Please see Mr. Blanchard if you have any questions.

Did you know that the steeplechase originated in Ireland and is meant to mimic horse racing by having runners complete 3000m while clearing 28 barriers and 7 water jumps?  Try it for yourself by scanning the QR code on the gym doors for Track and Field.  Practices start next Monday after school.

There will be a meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, at lunch in room 318 for all of those interested in playing lacrosse. See Ms. Yallup for more info.

Attention to all Junior and Senior Boys soccer players. Our first tryout will take place tomorrow, immediately after school outside on the field. Please see Mr. Shannon in room 301 if you have not already picked up or returned your permission to participate forms.

All intramural hockey players are asked to check their emails as soon as possible to potentially go watch the varsity boys championship game on Wednesday.

Short or tall, in rowing there is room for all. The rowing team is looking for some coxswains in grade 9 or 10 to join this spring. What does a coxswain do? They are in charge of steering the boat and leading the rowers down the race course with calls and instructions to help them go as fast as they can. Basically you are a race car driver on water. Anyone interested should see Mr. Ruscitti in Room 206 for more information. ALL rowers are reminded that the regular practice schedule resumes this week and it is very important to continue your consistent attendance and communication as we near the on-water rowing and racing season. Keep it growing. Go blue and gold!
