SPORTS
Jr. Girls Basketball:
The Jr Girls basketball team played in the championship game of the Myer tournament on Friday evening against the St. Mike's Mustangs. It was a tough battle for the girls being down 17 at half. Your cyclones battled back to get to within 1 late but just couldn’t get that last basket to fall and just barely lost the game, 53-50. The coaches are very proud of the team and their resilience to come back. They are reminded of their practice today after school! Attendance is a must! See Mr. Marquis for questions.
Sr. Girls Basketball:
The Senior Girls Basketball team traveled to Guelph this past weekend to compete in the Our Lady of Lourdes tournament.
In the opening game against the host school, the girls showed tremendous grit and perseverance. Lourdes held an eight-point lead for most of the first half, but in the second half we focused on improving our transition game—an adjustment that paid off. By the end of the fourth quarter we had tied the game and forced overtime, where we took the lead and never looked back, earning a 43–39 victory.
The second game against St. Joe’s of Barrie was a tougher challenge. Coming off the emotional first game, the team struggled to find the net despite working hard together, falling 37–23.
Saturday morning’s third-place match-up told a different story. Well-rested and energized, the girls dominated Eastwood of Kitchener. Nearly the entire roster hit the scoresheet in convincing fashion, sealing a 48–16 win.
The coaches would like to thank the team for a fantastic tournament and remind everyone of our next game tonight at Stamford at 3:30 p.m. Please meet in the main foyer at the end of the day to travel to Niagara Falls.
Cross Country:
This is a reminder to all cross-country runners. Our first invitational meet of the season is this Thursday, October 2nd at Brock University. Please bring your signed permission forms to Mr. Shannon in room 301 ASAP to ensure that you are eligible to participate.
