DAYS OF SIGNIFICANCE
Samhain-An ancient Celtic festival marking the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter. Celebrated in Pagan traditions, it is a time to honour ancestors, reflect on the cycle of life, and recognize the thinning of the veil between the living and the dead.
Halloween-This tradition goes back to the Celtic people 2,000 years ago who celebrated their New Year in late autumn and honoured Samhain or Lord of the Dead. They put candles on windows and lit bonfires to scare the disembodied spirits off. They wore disguises so as not to be recognized and always carried a lantern. The Irish traditionally carved lanterns out of turnips or potatoes, but in North America they used pumpkins which were more readily available. Black and orange are the traditional colours of Halloween. (Canada)

Rowing is one of the biggest teams in the school, and offers a unique and exciting opportunity to row and race on many great North American waters. Canada, after all, is the land of water. The school rowing program begins with an Indoor Winter Training program that has helped numerous rowers gain success on and off the water and get many students into the best shape of their lives. Practices will be starting soon and information will be forthcoming next week. Novice rowers (those new to the sport) in any grade, including grade nines through 12, will gradually build up their technique and fitness, have a lot of fun, and make new friends along the way. Stay tuned for more to come about the blue and gold. Get ready to Rock n’ Row!
