DAY OF SIGNIFICANCE
Ramadan (Feb 18-March 19)-This is the holiest month in the Islamic Year and begins at the sighting of the new moon. It commemorates the period during which Prophet Mohammad received divine revelations of the Holy Scripture (Quran). Observing Muslims fast between the hours of sunrise and sunset during the entire month, read the Qu'ran and worship in the mosque or at home. The dates may vary from year to year as it is based on the lunar calendar. This calendar follows the North American calculation. (Islam)
Ash Wednesday (First Day of Lent)-Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent on the Christian calendar. Its name is derived from the symbolic use of ashes to signify penitence. It takes place immediately after the excesses of the two days of Carnival that take place in Northern Europe and parts of Latin America and the Caribbean. (Christianity)
Losar New Year-Losar is the most important traditional festival of the year, and it is also the first Tibetan festival. At that time, each Tibetan family would reunite together to hold a variety of activities to celebrate the arrival of the New Year. (Buddhism – Tibetan, Bhutan)

Grade Specific Announcements
Grade 12:
It is extremely important that if any grade 12 has applied to university, you MUST check the accuracy of the data uploaded to the university application site. Students have reported missing credits. The IT department and OUAC are aware and attempting to diagnose the issue but in the meantime, students must email janet.cripps@dsbn.org if they notice an error. The biggest round of offers will be made on these marks.
