DAYS OF SIGNIFICANCE
Bengali New Year (Noboborsho, Phela Boishakh)-Bengali New Year, also known as 'Poheka Boishakh', is the first day in the Bengali calendar. It is a public holiday in Bangladesh and in India, it is a public holiday in several states and may be celebrated by Bengali communities elsewhere in India.
Puthandu (Tamil New Year)-Puthandu, also known as Puthuvarudam or Tamil New Year, is the first day of the year on the Tamil calendar and traditionally celebrated as a festival. The festival date is set with the solar cycle of the lunisolar Hindu calendar, as the first day of the Tamil month Chithirai. (Buddhism/Taoism)
Solar New Year (Mesha Sankranta)-Mesha Sankranti refers to the first day of the solar cycle year, that is the solar New Year in the Hindu luni-solar calendar. The Hindu calendar also has a lunar new year, which is religiously more significant, and falls on different dates in the Amanta and Purinamanta systems prevalent across the Indian subcontinent. Vaisakhi Sikh New Year-Vaisakhi, also pronounced Baisakhi, marks the first day of the month of Vaisakha and is usually celebrated annually on April 13 or 14 as the solar New Year. It is additionally a spring harvest festival in the Punjab. (Sikhism)

Attention senior boys soccer players. Your final team list is posted on the bulletin board in the gym hallway. After checking the list, please see Mr. Shannon in room 301 at lunch today for a quick meeting and to pick up some important forms ahead of next week’s tournament. There will be after school practices this week on Wednesday and Friday. As always, dress for the weather and see Mr. Shannon, Mr. Malgi or Mr. Lafferty if you cannot attend.
Jr Boys soccer players are reminded of their meeting in room 215 at lunch today and also their game after school at Port Colborne High. Boys are not signed out for period 4 and should only leave for the game after school is dismissed.
