DAYS OF SIGNIFICANCE

Today is Music Monday! This day is recognized across Ontario and celebrates the value of Music in our education system!

Occupational Health and Safety Week (May 3-9)-Occupational Health and Safety Week is an ideal time for employers, employees, partners, and the public to focus on the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace, at home, and in the community.

National Youth Week (May 1-7)-A week dedicated to the celebration of youth and their active participation in their community. Whether it is recreation, drama, sport, dance, civic engagement, art, volunteerism or leadership, everyday young people are involved in meaningful activities during their discretionary time. National Youth Week is a time to honour their involvement! Youth, those young people in their teenage years, are an important asset to Canadian communities. One way in which young people learn to successfully bridge the developmental gap between childhood and adulthood is through the activities in which they participate in their time out of school or work.

This week is Mental Health Week in Canada, a national initiative that encourages everyone to learn about mental well‑being, reduce stigma, and support one another. It’s a reminder that taking care of your mind is just as important as taking care of your body.

To celebrate, this Wednesday, the Wellness Club is hosting our 3rd Annual Wellness Fair during the lunch period. We’re excited to welcome 29 local organizations who will be here to share information about the free services available in our community, for mental health and so much more. There will also be prizes to be won! Don’t miss it.

Do you recall the song that played before the bell this morning? Does it remind you of a staff member? Do you know that each day in May we will be playing a song that has been nominated by a staff member?! Take some time now to discuss the song with your period 1 class and guess who the staff member was that nominated the song for today! The link to the google form has been emailed to staff. At the end of the week we will announce the class who has made the most correct guesses and that class will win a prize!
